To the snowdrop festival
The heroes of Bohumil Hrabal's novels have been entertaining readers for dozens of years, especially under the kind film direction of Jiří Menzel. Discover places where the legendary The Snowdrop Festival was filmed, and explore the region of the famous Czech writer.
Exploring the region of the quirky film characters, the beloved place of Bohumil Hrabal, will be well balanced. You can look forward to the idyll of the countryside, the historical charms of a busier town and memories of the famous film heroes.
With sauerkraut or with rosehip sauce? The fundamental argument in The Snowdrop Festival. The protagonists tried to settle it in the restaurant Hájenka near Sadská. Even nowadays you can find it open, so feel free to have a seat and refresh yourself with either tasty game or anything else off the menu. You will need strength for your further explorations of film locations. The trail of Hrabal was opened in Kersko only last year! It's seven kilometres long and leads by the spring of St. Joseph, the water of which profesor Jirásek loved to drink. The trail then continues with the road which Franc took on his way to the pub, by Hrabal's very own cottage and by the memorable pine tree with a poetic name Krásná Pepina (Beautiful Pepina). The famous film boar hunt started near the spring.
From Kersko we will continue to Nymburk. Bohumil Hrabal spent many years of his life in the local brewery, so don't hesitate to quench your thirst with a lovely pint of the Postřižiny beer. Another point of interest is the Gothic Church of St. Giles and the town walls, adjacent to the cycling trail called Labská, or the Cubist crematory just outside the town center.
It is recommended to experience this trip on a bicycle, that way you'll enjoy it best. The region Polabí will no doubt get under your skin.
