Hoffmannova Street
Hoffmannova Street is located in the Prague district of Podolí and is known for its historic but well-preserved apartment buildings and cobblestones. Overgrown with greenery on both sides, it is quite hidden from the outside world. A great place to…
The assassination of acting Reich Protector Heydrich in the film Lidice was shot here. The tyres of the historic Mercedes convertible really did touch these cobblestones, as the spot eerily resembled period photographs. The scene wasn’t meant to be in the film due to budgetary constraints. However, thanks to a national collection it was shot at the last moment, about a month before the film’s premiere. It makes the entire picture more comprehensible to world audiences. Paradoxically, people know more about the assassination than the subsequent massacre in Lidice.
