Valley Modrý důl

When there is need to hide something precious, it's important to choose the right spot. The protagonist of the film The Illusionist hid the love of his life in the valley called Modrý důl near Sněžka, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic. His choice was perfect, as the raw beauty of the valley resembles the slopes of the Alps and is equally inaccessible.

Watching Eisenheim on his hasty way over the mountain brook to the nearby wooden house, courtesy of the Barrandov Studios property-room, one can't help comparing the mountains in the picture to the highest mountain range in Europe; yet still we remain on Czech soil.

The glacial valley, hemmed in by the mountains Studniční hora and Lesní hora, steeply descends from the ridge to the bottom and its poetry lies not only in the names of the surroundings. The wild nature is completed by a complex of typical mountain houses, located in one of the highest spots in the country.

It's only a stone's throw away from Pec pod Sněžkou; from there you'll reach Modrý důl by taking the red trail. You can then go on by choosing the yellow trail leading to the popular valley called Obří důl, or the blue trail running to the highest peak of the area and the Czech Republic as such, Sněžka.
