Chateau Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou

The grandeur and charm of the chateau in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou enchanted the makers of a mini-series adaptation of the classic The Scarlet Pimpernel. However within its walls aristocrats had a tough time to say the least.

Part of the chateau was made over as Café Méchanique, the venue for a conspiratorial meeting between the Scarlett Pimpernel and Minette. She was meant to bring him valuable information but it turned out she was playing both sides and a group of soldiers rushed into the café instead.

The trial of the wife of Sir Percy, aka the mysterious Scarlett Pimpernel, took place in Jaroměřice with Robespierre himself serving as prosecutor. By contrast the painter Artur enjoyed some very pleasant moments here.

At the chateau where the revolutionaries made things hot for the unfortunate Marguerite you can look forward to a visit marked by absolute serenity, whether you decide to stroll through the earls’ suites, check out the kitchen or spend some time at the Church of St. Margaret or in the gorgeous chateau garden. Your children are sure to enjoy an exhibition of toys that includes dolls, toy trains and teddy bears.

In the summer Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou hosts the Petr Dvorský International Music Festival. It guarantees a good time thanks to its mix of jazz and several other genres, with some events taking place at the chateau itself.
